I was playing on Server 1 for a good three or four hours tonight, and then it crashed at about 2:50ish, am. While I wouldn't normally think that this was a big deal, when I logged back on the check on my character, Cap'n William (Account name Aegeon), I found I'd lost the xp for the past three hours, I'd gotten up to level 18 before and found I was back at level 14. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but I know my friend Alexander Dawnstar was there (I think his account name is phader2k2 but I'm not sure) and there were a couple other members in the party... Fenwreck(minotaur), Del (a mindflayer), Mori, and perhaps a few others as well. I know you guys aren't required to do anything about such things, but we were playing for a good 3 hours, it'd be nice if we could get an xp restoration for the crash. Thanks for your time.

Crashes are unfortunately a reality of technology. This is why we provide saving pens (the small feather in your inventory) so that you can routinely save your characters in order to avoid losing data from any unexpected server outages. Now if the crash was caused by something that the team had done (such as the test run of the SimTools for Linux that crashed the servers continuously), then an attempt at restoring lost XP could be justified. However for what should be a minor occurance, the saving pens are to be used as your insurance to maintain XP.

Well, your right, and I should have been using my saving pen, but when someone uses their saving pen, doesn't it save all the characters? I just found it a little hard to believe that no one used it at all for like two and a half hours, though I suppose such a thing could happen. Ah well, nothing to do but suck it up and deal I guess.

Both the saving pen and the guardian save your character only. We had to make that change (they used to save everyone) a long time back, when upgrades to shifter abilities meant more people playing shifters, and we discovered that it was unshifting them when they were being saved. You also get saved when you rest, unless you are shifted or polymorphed. We don't advertise that fact however, because we don't want players to rely on it alone. I may revist this and apply a more nuanced approach, but it hasn't been a major issue. Funky
