Anyone on the do not call list get a telemarketer telling them they could have opted out of the call by pressing 2 if you pick up on an automated message?
Then the #$#@# hung up on me when I asked for the company information.
Anyone have strategies for getting these guys to play by the rules?

Well, the phone company may be able to identify them for you...

I have had problems myself with these companies, I live in the UK and the opt-out option only works for dailers that originate in UK. Many companies now use auto-dailers from places out side of the UK, in particular India it seems. These calls are not subject to the opting-out as the calls are international and the really annoying thing is that these are the 1s you can get at 3am.

Getting a telemarketer call at 3am would be liable grounds for nuclear deterrence I think! That means I get to use: So then later in the evening I got a call from the Veteran's association - donate to keep vets from going homeless - etc. I was genuinely interested but then they want a guaranteed donation. When I said I couldn't do that right now but would like... *click* they #@@#! hung up on me. Didn't even let me finish asking for information. It was an odd day for phone conversations. Not used to this since my work day is spent on the phone. And no, I'm not a telemarketer. I do internal Help Desk for a power company.

If I don't recognize the number, I just let my answering machine get it.
I just hope it doesn't one day revolt, evolve, and then mess around with Stephen Hawking in order to get some type of security clearance to nuke us all.

I find being bilingual helps a lot in these situations. When one of these people call, usually as I sit down with my family for our evening meal, I simply speak to them in Welsh and they pretty soon hang up!!
