Maybe a scarlet letter? Seriously, I'd rather just keep em locked up for life than condeming them in that fashion. Would prevent futher crimes, and they aren't going to lead a normal life anyway, once branded. Funky That's not necessarily true. I had a professor that is on that list. I don't know the offense or how long ago it was, but he is now a respected member of the community. Not only is he a professor, but plays regularly in a blues band around the valley. I know that he is far from the norm in that situation, but it is possible for people to rise above their past mistakes and make something better of themselves.

You are missing my point. I wasn't saying that all sex offenders are recidivist, though most of the serious offenders are. I was pointing out the impact of lists like watchdog on their lives. Funky

Sorry, I missed the sarcasm. You have a good point. A list like this tends to throw the bath water out with the baby, so to speak. It's informative, but should be taken with a grain of salt.

I think that most problems are like this: yes, maybe the genuine offenders, but there is always the "if" or "unless", and often this is too hard to acertain with a law - there is no half-way, and so instead of killing innocents we keep the guilty alive....

Funky's Scarlet Letter (ala the book I of same name I gather) may be coming to the state of Wisconsin as idiots are proposing a bright green license plate for convicted offenders.
Yeah don't see that being a problem for those people at all (sarcasm set to 11)

Maybe we should make them wear a yellow star badge.
