Someone ran a stop sign(failed to yield is what they put on the paper, but it's essentially the same thing in this case). The end result? The front end of my brand new 2007 honda element is well, rather farked. I'm usually not one to talk about other people, and I've been in an accident before. One that was my fault and one that was not, but this girl was a TERRIBLE driver. She ran her mustang into the ditch while trying to move her car off of the road. She was only doing about one mile and hour and in all honesty it wasn't a very difficult maneuver. I wrote it off as just nerves. However, the tow truck guy knows the family that hit me, and he confirmed that, yes, she's a lousy driver and this isn't the first accident she's been in that was her fault. She also didn't have her license or a valid license plate(one of the expiration stickers was missing).
The range of emotions I feel right now is intense. I'm sad that my new car is messed up. I'm angry that I was unable to prevent it and that my toddler was in the car at the time. But I'm also glad that no one was hurt and things could have been a lot worse.
Just thought I'd share my lovely day.

Yuck. Thats horrible. Still, as much as your car is wrecked, it did what it was supposed to. Protect the people inside it.

Did she even have insurance? How does your car get fixed? Paid by your insurance and they go after her I guess.
Glad your family is ok.

Did she even have insurance? How does your car get fixed? Paid by your insurance and they go after her I guess. Glad your family is ok. She had insurance fortunately. Since it happend at 5 pm on a Friday afternoon, I was just now able to get them to tow the car from the truck yard to the body shop. However, the claims adjuster has the day off, so he won't be able to assess the damage until tomorrow. My insurance shouldn't have to pay a dime. Everything from the towing to the little plastic caps they put on screw holes is being paid for by her insurance.

My insurance shouldn't have to pay a dime. Everything from the towing to the little plastic caps they put on screw holes is being paid for by her insurance. I thought that was how things worked, too. But after someone ran into me, and their insurance paid out, my next year's premium had been raised. On inquiring as to the cause of the raise, I was told that I had made a claim, and this was taken into account. No amount of "You charge me extra if you have to do the job you're paid for???" or "Can you please explain this policy to my solicitor" brought any satisfactory response. I took the only sensible course of action. Moved my policy to a new company. And let everyone I can know about elephant.co.uk 's awful service. Never ever ever use elephant.co.uk General Rant: I have still to be shown how Insurance companies are anything other than liars and thieves. Personal experience: They lied to me and stole my money. Several times. Details available.

As a self-proclaimed veteran of vehicle mishaps >..> <..<, I can honestly say that you are already ahead of the game even though it doesn't feel like it. You are alive!, Bro, and so's your kid. Call up her insurance company and bitch 'em out. tell them you want a rental, then take it out and beat the crap out of it ...don't forget to buy insurance...hehe ....OR.... My child is now traumatized and won't go anywhere in or near the car....Please bend over so I can see how much money you have! All kidding aside, you and your child are safe

I cannot stress this enough. Cars are replaceable, your children are NOT. Our cars are a means of transportation but when something goes wrong they are meant to protect us. Your car did it's job and will be replaced in due time. Yes, it is an inconvenience, but imagine how much worse it would have been if your child had to be transported to the hospital. It's a shame that there isn't some sort of test we could make people take to see that they are capable of driving a car. Wouldn't that be nice.
