Was running through Thids an hour or two ago and all of sudden I started to get ludicrous amounts of gfx lag where I shouldn't be getting any lag at all. It was alright up to that point and a quick alt-ctrl-delete showed the cause: www.file.net/process/ccpxysvc.exe.htmlIt was using up 100% of my CPU's power. As far as I can tell, it's usually alright but it's like a time bomb, occassionally going ballistic for no apparent reason and staying that way until, just as mysteriously it came, it leaves. Now, I haven't updated my copy of Norton Internet Security since sometime in 2006, the subscription has long since expired, it throws up an annoying subscription message whenever I start my computer (which can't be disabled), and overall I'd just like to dump the program. Norton has always given me problems and I've already long ago dumped the anti-virus part for Anti-vir. So I was wondering if any of you had any advice? Know of any good free firewalls (don't tell me the built in windows one)? My router has its own firewall and it catches most things but occassionally one or two things get through.

If you need an antivirus, it is definitely hard to go wrong with Avast/Alwil. I know that my dad had a lot of trouble with Norton, even while he was playing with it. I actually ended up deleting it and replacing it with Avast. It should serve as a decent antivirus. It's free too. I'll provide a link if you want to DL it. Link: www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.htmlIf the program is harmful, avast should only minimize your NWN game and give you an alert message, and then just hit the "Delete" button and you can get back to your business. At any rate, that's my reccomendation. Oh, and for registration, you don't have to pay for the home version.

You could also try the free version of AVG. I found that between AVG and Avast, AVG seems to have less of a desire to eat your processor usage, especially on start up.

i use avira and have had no problems with it. i have it check for updates and run a scan everyday. definately update your antivirus and spyware too. there are plenty more programs like spywarebuster etc if you want to get into it, but it depends on how many sketchy sites you tend to visit
