Ingredients: 1 long weekend (canada thanksgiving) 1 small quiet island where stuff closes early anyways 1 abscessed tooth
Right now I look like I'm half chipmunk (the left half that is), wishing antibiotics worked faster than 2-3 days, won't get access to proper pain medications until tomorrow

Aww, sorry to hear that Chewing on a clove (yeah, the little twig-looking spice) is an old-fashioned remedy for toothache, so if you have any in the cupboard it's worth a try, tastes pretty funny, but it numbs the whole area. Get well soon, Dave

T-2s and regular advil work, but they take 15-20 minutes to start working, wear off in under 2 hours, and you're only supposed to take them every 3-4.. I do have some dental numbing cream too, but it isn't all that effective
Back home now, but between ferry and drive took forever, took meds on ferry so they'd kick in as it docked, but was still an hour from home when they started to wear, and the last bit was agony. I never take painkillers, so I swear I've had more in the last 3 days than the rest of my life combined

Painkillers wore off just now, so I took some new ones, and was wondering why they weren't kicking in at all. Then after a bit I realized I was in a dream, and needed to wake up and really take new ones.
Thanksgiving dinner was especially lovely, my wife has tonsilitis right now, so one who couldn't chew and the other who couldn't swallow made for a bit of a joke. Only reason she'd come along is because my parents had already driven 2 days from the other direction to see our kids, and I couldn't take our daughter by myself yet because she isn't weaned yet.

Cloves are a great remedy for toothache. If you can't get fresh cloves then a tub of clove oil works. Pour quite a bit round the infected area. Or chew an asprin. If you can get your hands on co-codamol, grab it with both hands.
The only other remedy is to throw Whiskey at the problem. A nice large glass of decent Scotch will, if nothing else, stop you worrying about it for a while. (NOTE: Check with any medication for alcohol warnings). For tonsillitis, whiskey in hot lemon can sooth the throat.

I have had MANY MANY tooth problems, I have several Caps, and Root canals, and have had more abbsessed teeth than is really fair for one person to have. In my experiance the absolutre BEST over the counter medication you cna buy is Naproxin Sodium. thats the generic term for Aleve. You know, all day strong, all day long?
Its really expensive, but it will work, and it will work for a while

I would go "Cast away" on that tooth.
It worked in the movies.

To add to the fun, my cheek is still swelling, all from the gumline, to the point that I now have pressure on my eye. Went to emergency last night and they switched me to IV antibiotics, and at dentist today he said it was one of the worst cases of swelling he'd seen.. tooth isn't too painful, but the swelling is. Then the dentist cut in and squeezed out some of the blood and pus, all without pain meds (needle with painkiller, sharp pokey thing to make drainage hole equal pain so why bother), I'm hoping that'll help a bit, but it was the most unpleasent experience I've had in the dentist's chair so far. (he asked his assistant if she was alright, so it must have been very messy)
