Hey Funky, To us litteral minded ones, the statement: "Harper Scout (requires only 5 levels in harperscout to find and use)" seems to be all inclusive. The implied requirement, if stated, woulda stopped me from bugging the DM's one night ;/ I suggest: "Harper Scout (requires 5 levels in harperscout and 40 overall character levels to find and use)". We may be talking a fine distinction here?
At 5 levels of Harper Scout and around 30 total character levels, once I was at the correct spot I was given a notice that I was not advanced enough to proceed to the hidden area. So in a sense, I had "found" the right spot, but still hadn't "found" the secret, as I couldn't proceed to the hidden area to actually possess the HS secret item.
So from the perspective of "finding = possessing", I would stick with my wording. From the perspective of "finding = knowing where it is", your wording is more accurate. Ultimately, I suspect Funky will determine the outcome ...

I think a commonsense contexual reading is sufficiently clear. You left out the beginning of the class secret section, and only showed the harperscout qualification: -Class Secrets There are secret items for several classes, and more are in the works. These secrets require 25 levels in the class and 35 levels overall to FIND; they require 35 levels in the class, and 40 levels overall to USE. They are non-UMDable. Secret items currently exist for: Sorceror Wizard Bard Ranger (requires only 25 levels of ranger to find AND use) Harper Scout (requires only 5 levels in harperscout to find and use) Paladin/Cot (requires 25 levels of paladin, OR 25 levels of CoT, OR 35 combined levels of CoT and Paladin to find AND use) Fighter (requires only 25 levels of fighter to find AND use) Funky

Ah yes forgive my n00bishness Funky. I mis-interpreted the Harper Scout entry to mean it was an exception to all of the requirements, instead of just an exception to the class requirements - my bad ;<
