I have gotten my Caster bard up to 44 now, and have been getting alot of questions about it, how to play one ect. I am by no means an expert as I am kinda figuring it out as ai Go along, but I wanted to tell you guys what I have found so far, and answer any questions I can that people may have, I know QT has her caster bard close to mine in levels so she can prolly chime in as well.
~Major points~
The most important thing to know when playing a caster bard is you are NOT really watching or focusing on mobs, been a couple times I was surprised the mobs were all dead.
Your main focus as a caster bard is your party. YOU need to try to do the following things at all times. Make sure very mob is cursed, Dirge baddies, Make sure all party have song including those who die, will need a fresh song, Keep Healing Circle up all the time, and Amplify the tough mobs so sonic damage from Weps, and other sources hurts more. And Rez your party members who go down. I can tell you this is all much harder than any toon I have played, and exciting .
Most other toons you will play are focused on which mob to hit next, or which spell to cast, or which form to use, ect. With a caster bard you have ALOT to do. What you do will often mean the difference in how well a party does. I just finished helping on a Thid run where not one person died in the tube room, nobody went down one time. HINT The demons in the tube room can be stunned with your still sound book
Caster bards are HARD to play until you get to farm area, then things start easing up, Make sure you put points in heal, as your healing circle is pretty awesome.
Its not as hard to stay alive as you would think it is, If your not hitting monsters, they most of the time do not pay attention to you, focusing on the fighters instead, Carry a few GS scrlls with you at all times for when things get nasty, You can curse adn sing though GS, as well as cast healing circles ad rez. However your most Effective spell IMO is Dirge, and it will break GS.
Thats the most important things I have found so far, Feel free to ask any specific questions.
One last thing, as far as gear, my current setup is Soul mirror helm from thids, Daqurite robes from Dachy, Dachy Lute in main hand, Greater Horn of blasting in off hand, UR cleric belt "This gives you +12 to Con and Wis", loves still suck, Dachy Bard Cloak, Bedouins Spellturner Ammy, and Coalwalker boots. I got alot of help with this setup from Arch, Cath and Sabregirl, I am pretty comfortable with it till I get 50 for my tunic of Jamrous Pegason, and can get a set of BUR bard gloves.
