Hey everyone - Not been to the 9 yet, so I was wondering if someone who has (and has been deep) could answer some questions.
I think I read somewhere that most monsters are crit-immune in the certain parts of the Hells. Can anyone confirm this? Or am I just mis-remembering something?
I'm just wondering, because if that's the case, WM would be a waste of a bunch of feats on some of the builds I'm considering, and I could really use the levels/feats elsewhere (saves? yes please!).
As always, thanks in advance.

As with all areas some mobs are crit immune and some are not (bosses are all crit immune I think). Taking WM levels is a big feat cost but works well with some builds. My main Hells toon so far is a Dragons Sting RDD/WM/Bard and he's pretty effective although he could really do with better saves. Currently I've sucessfully got him the Minauros tag.

Not everything is crit immune. More importantly hardly anything is knockdown immune (i didn't know this when building my strengthy...I did so long before the hells came out mind you ). But theoretically you could even knock down pit fiends if you had enough AB, improved knockdown, large character size, and used a large weapon. Something like a Malephant with a large amount of WM levels (to pump up his AB), and improved knockdown would be one of the most useful characters to take with you. Tyran

My wife tells me that she examine the pit fiends yesterday and found them to be knockdown immune....there a lot of annoying monsters that are not though so it could still be very helpful

Quick answer as for crit immune -- check out the list below and it's clear the answer is that lots of things are crittable. WM's are very nice to have. But theoretically you could even knock down pit fiends if you had enough AB, improved knockdown, large character size, and used a large weapon. Having played a Mino str fighter with good ab, improved knockdown, large size, and using a large weapon, I found knockdown to very rarely work even when in areas far below my level. But maybe with a shifter behind me doing the actual damage I could afford to spend 20 rounds seeing "Knockdown Resisted" come up on my screen in the hope that someday one would fall down. It all depends on what discipline they've been given. Reading this again it seems awfully negative. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone playing a character with good KD as to whether it works for you in the Hells. Many but not all of the minibosses are critical immune. Pretty much all of the bosses are crit immune and have significant conceal. Some monsters are immune, some aren't. As a non-WM str tank in a party with a WM str tank, I can say that WM levels are NOT a waste. They do more damage on a lot of things. This comes at an intensive stat and feat cost -- one of the many ways that NWN/HG keeps us interested as there isn't just one way to make things work. Conceal listed in parens. All information is from my combat logs. Crit immune: Arachill Baatorian Green Steel Golem Infernal Machine Kocrachon (60) Living Cold (90) Malefic Wind (90) Osyluth Pit Fiend (70) Pyrexic Fume (90) Of these 9 things, 4 of them are things the meleers aren't hitting anyway and 5 of them are best dealt with by a cleric. Osyluths and Pit Fiends are definitely nasty. The golems that were a yawn back in the earlier levels do a surprising amount of damage in the later levels now that your immunities are so much lower. Not crit immune as far as I can tell: Amnizu (80) Barbazu Bezekira Abishai Cinderscale Coldforge Construct (65) Cornugon Erinyes (60) Gelugon Hamatula Hell Hound Hell Leech (55) Ice Fiend (65) Ice Reaver Imp (50) Kyton (55) Lemure Maelephant Minauran Murkfiend Nupperibo Rakshasa (80) Soul Shell (60) Spinagon (60) Swamp Devil It is possible there are some things on the "probably not crit immune" list that are actually immune because nobody in my parties ever did a critical on them. I have watched a scythe WM take out a Barbezu very quickly with a sequence of huge crits.

Wow, great info Tyran, Yomi, and Chain. Thanks for all of the responses. It definitely gives me more to go on as I think about my first strength melee'er for the Hells. Thanks for imparting some of your wisdom. It really is much appreciated.
Now another question: have you seen Massive Criticals on many of the Hells weapons? I'm wondering if Overwhelming is worth taking at all. I know about the arguments for and against, and just wondering if many weapons have the overriding Massive property.
Thanks again!

Don't bother with those feats, they are just too expensive for what they do. Hells weapons are +15 from what I have seen and have fewer damage types than the Tiamat version. They could be better in certain situations, no crits or other bells and whistles on them. They are also tag only. I can show you a few examples if you catch me in game.
