Whenever my gf brings her laptop we have intermittent connectivity issues with the HG servers. I've got a bare bones home network set up. Nothing fancy just a router that is a DHCP client to my IP and a DHCP server to the local LAN. We're getting all the right client settings form the DHCP server, all internet connectivity except NWN is working normally.
Last night we played for two hours and then our connections 'hung'. We then found only one of us could connect to a server at a time or it would more or less freeze both connections. For example we could walk around and even go through some doors but could not examine items or use the mass identifier. We took a half hour break (read we spent 30 min troubleshooting) and it appeared to clear itself up.
Tonight when one gets on a server the other person gets a timeout message trying to connect to same server and the first person's session locks up.
We've tried with and without Gamespy (using Crossroads). Is there some server side scripting going on or something?
All other internet traffic works just fine in tandem.

EDIT: She's using her own Diamond Installation but my game CD as the play CD. Our Cd keys show up as different though in !playerinfo

did you change your ports in the nwn config files so the two machines wont conflict?

Sounds like you haven't set your ports as different in your ini files.
On one of your computers, edit the nwnplayer.ini file in your NWN directory, and change the line Game Port=5121 to Game Port=5122. That should fix your problem.

Thanks you two. That sounds about right. We've set her machine top 5122 and will get another chance to test it on Tuesday.

Change em like acaos said and forward them in your router as well .
You will need to set your network as static ip's as well since you will havta give an ip number and port if u wanna forward and dont wanna do it all over again each time u boot your pc ;D
EDIT : this works for me and my brother whenever he comes over to play HG at my place ;D

BTW using wired connection or wireless?

We're both wireless.
I've enabled port forwarding, 5121 to my IP (both TCP and UDP) and 5122 to her IP but we're still getting the same behavior.
We can't even seem to log onto different servers. It says the connection timed out.
Thanks for the suggestions though. I'm not exactly a TCP/IP noobie but this has be boggled.

Static IPs are a must on any wireless network. You probably also have to configure the computer itself to get the static IP.
What is your hardware setup? For wireless connection, do you have Built in cards? If so who is the manufacturer? Who makes your router? What software do you use to configure the wireless connection on the computers?

I don't like to disagree but static IP's should have nothing to do with it. They aren't a must, I've run DHCP on my wireless netowrk for years. Yes you are right, setting static IP's must be done manually on each PC, including a subnet mask and default gateway. That's all TCP/IP networking 101. The nature of DHCP ensures that I will continue to get the same IP as long as I announce to the DHCP server before the lease expires. This is virtually garunteed since I'm on the dang thing every day. My IP hasn't changed, ever. In fact it would take some advanced planning to create the conditions under which it would change and I couldn't go without my PC that long anyway.
Her laptop has a built in wireless component, I'm using a linksys wireless g card. I have a linksys wireless g router (WRT54G firmware 1.02.2). We both use the native windows network configuration amanger. I have the linksys wireless network monitor disabled and I haven't ever seen vendor config software on hers (which to me makes sense since it's integrated wireless). It's not software firewall related either, we don't run them.
I should ask the gaming techno weenies on the team at work. We're all systems administrators, but obviously not all created equal. Frankly it's embarassing not to be able to figure this out.

OK, solved it. There are two port settings in the nwnplayer.ini Client Port and Game Port. Each PC needs a unique set (so that means four discreet numbers).
