Whenever i start NWN using the desktop shortcut, and then click play, every thing is all laggy and i get maybe 10 FPS on a still screen. On a Lloth run earlier (when it started) i had to switch computers after a reboot it was so bad. Any ideas?

There are lots of places this could be a problem. You can try using HG Server Crossroads from here:- highergroundpoa.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=software&action=display&thread=10937This will rule out Gamespy related issues. Do you get lag everywhere or only on runs? If everywhere then what happens if you turn your graphics settings down? If only on runs make sure that you dont have "Floaty Text" switched on. Those overhead numbers summon a truly magnificent lagbeast.

nothing new.... and it happens the second i hit the play button on the first window. The "Atari" screen and the Bioware Animation are also full of lag. will try X-Roads next time i boot windows.

i dont think crossroads will help with this issue, it sounds more like something besides nwn causing the problem. does this occur with any games besides nwn?

first thing to do would be a system checkup i think. run your antivirus, defrag your harddrive, clean up your active processes if youre familiar with it, etc. if you can, try to pin down some more symptoms, eg what other applications are running slowly, how your cpu usage sits when idle, your memory usage, etc.

right now while the computer is sitting idle with anti-virus in the tray, the CPU usage is between 1-3%. I am using the free AVG anti-virus, and after a complete scan it came up with ~15 tracking cookies from real media or something like that. the HD is rather fragmented, with 26% total fragmentation and 50% file fragmentation. How does this happen? Defragging as we speak.

There appear to be multiples of some drivers... should i delete the old ones somehow? Which of these can be ended, if any? Okay so Defrag just finished and it now stands at 15% total and 30% file.... should i run the defrag again?

Hmm now it is running fine... No idea....

P.S I am gonna defrag it throughout the night to try to drop that number even lower.

im assuming youre using a macbook of some sort? the process list looks good, killing anything at this point may disable functionality youre expecting
file fragmentation occurs as you create new files on your harddrive. fragmentation will slow your programs down as your system has to search all over the drive for different file fragments - this is especially noticeable with loading times

Okay cool... Yeah I am on a MacBook Pro etc etc etc...
Fragmentation is now at 12% and refuses to go lower.

when youre defragmenting a drive, you want at least 15% of the drive size free to be able to properly defragment. you can try defragmenting without that much space, but there may be files which your defragmentation program cannot work with. if you delete some stuff, you may be able to get the rest of your drive defragmented
given that your problem seems solved though, it isnt necessary to continue trying

I have 18% free so the defragger didn't complain. I am online now.
