Libya update: www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2011/02/26/libya-world.html"The embattled regime of Moammar Gadhafi is arming civilian supporters to set up checkpoints and roving patrols around the Libyan capital to control movement and quash dissent, residents said Saturday." I guess that's why it's called "Gun Control", not gun eradication. At times of serious conflict the guns often do seem to come out, and then it's all about the "Control". Moammar appears to believe that in desperate times, armed civilians can be effective. And on the international pressure front (also from the AP above): "The United Nations Security Council planned to meet later Saturday for a second day to consider an arms embargo against the Libyan government..." Ya think?

Ya think? I don't think the concept of arming supporters and disarming dissenters will ever seem like a "bad idea" to those in power.
