E3 evaluates The Foundry. Cryptic's modding and development engine. Massive turnoff for me. I was SOOO hoping to have the same capabilities with Neverwinter's toolset as both NWN and NWNX give us now. Lead Producer Andy Velasquez talks about The FoundrySeems there will be no truly persistent worlds as Neverwinter Nights has right now. Only user-generated side-quests that stem out from Cryptic's main (and only) persistent world. *shudders* I had such high expectations. - There will be a complete set of standalone content that Cryptic will create for the game.
- When the game launches, there will be a robust set of tools on The Foundry for players.
- They're trying to design it to be an easier version of the Aurora toolset while maintaining a high level of customization.
- They're still trying to work out exactly how much they want to allow users to be able to do with it.
Your custom content will also require submission and rating before being released and playable, and user ratings from then on to decide whether or not it will remain accessible.

And so another potential candidate for HG's evolution bites the dust. You should probably post this in the Bioboard General thread if you haven't already.

It's Cryptic. These are not the droids you're looking for.

Most of the interview and writeup made me chuckle. "Having built a reputation as masters of character customization over the years, Cryptic seems well suited to tackle the custom content creation side of Neverwinter". Err.. only you can't really customize the items. And by-the-by, character customization =/= content creation.
They're working on it which is a good thing I guess. My main concern keeps going back to how much Obsidian totally gacked the NWN franchise with their NWN2 offering. Can Cryptic cut it better, or will they simply be gumming up the works?

Not really, no. I played the first Morrowind way back when and wasn't terribly impressed. I won't rule it out, though, as it seems the only way we're going to get a NWN3 with a decent toolset and reasonable hosting setup is if we make it ourselves. Funky

Funky I would totally help with that...What better addition to my resume than "Hey bioware/bethesda, I built this game /mod with some friends" Edit: That's basically what I plan on doing anyway for my capstone.

Graphical Applications programming is my 2nd major choice that I'll soon be going to college for.

Graphical Applications programming is my 2nd major choice that I'll soon be going to college for. Nice! I'm getting a minor in Computer Science, which gets me a good knowledge of C++, Python, Java, database structures and such that I hopefully can apply to working in the industry. ^_^

I have worked with stellar structure and stellar dynamics simulations and am planning to do my major research about a Head-tail galaxy with an Active Galactic Nucleus that is moving through hot, turbulent intergalactic gas in two merging galaxy clusters, where I am hopefully going to be able to reproduce the observations with a computer simulation.
i guess I can do physics?
