Can someone confirm: is xp penalty experienced when 1 level between or 2? So if I am lvl1 Pally, lvl3 Cleric - that is xp penalty; while lvl2 Pally, lvl3 Cleric is not? Or is it only on lvl1 Pally, lvl4 Cleric that the penalty kicks in?

Is the level gap is more than 1 so 1 and 3 will receive a penalty until the levels are within that margin again. This penalty is -20% and stacks if you have 3 non favored base classes for a max total of -40%. I may be mistaken but I am fairly certain that when a subrace has different favored races the old are overwritten and no long apply.

With only two classes, you would only receive a penalty if neither class is a favored class. In that case, the penalty would apply as soon as the gap between the two classes increased to at least 2 levels. Therefore--assuming your hypothetical build has neither pally nor cleric as favored class--1pal/2clr would be no penalty. 1/3 would, or any other combination where there is more than a 1-level difference. As explained on NWNWiki, the penalty kicks in as soon as the "deciding" level is taken (so going back to your example, as soon as the 1pal/2clr took her 3rd cleric level). I'm not exactly known for being clear and concise and...er, sorry if that's a bit wordier than needed. Hope that helps. Yojimbo--yes, that's always been my understanding as well. I think it would be a pretty sure guess to say that's correct (otherwise it wouldn't make much sense).
