I'm going to be playing my 1st ever Cleric on HG so I can offer more options on Hell Runs besides and Archer.
I have a few SubRace books avail but the only one with decent WIS adds is Doppleganger. Can you point me to a good build with some spell selection done for me that I can run with? Going to be plugging it into a level 40 non-immo so the harder lower levels will be done already.
Really appreciate the pointers and help. Hopefully my Archer can find me some nice Cleric gear to wear once I hit IMMO!!
Rain's stuff is always pretty reliable. Also if you scroll down the page there's a version using a secret race, Kenku, which shouldn't be difficult to mod to a Doppelganger version.
For a player learning casters I'd probably go with the "Good" aligned version that takes a paladin level however; implosion alone is plenty effective in LLs and Hell and I think you'll appreciate the bonus saves more than the extra spell (Heartbane).

The best way to learn a new class is to level it from 1st. Plus, you can pick up the Badger's Quest items along the way and turn your butt-ugly Doppleganger into something really cool looking.
Eh...right now I'm not feeling like I have the time to type up huge essays. Also in the back of my mind is some advice I was given that I said I was going to put into practice, failed to do so, and now I'm doing my best to redouble my efforts.
But back on-topic: Magical, one think in particular I can think of that you can gain from by doing a new cleric from 1 (along the lines of what Woll said) is Prayer/BT technique. Much like anything else practice makes perfect and I noticed a definite difference in efficiency after I got truly comfortable with positioning my toon to get optimal use of BT AoE and Prayer. I would say that it's worth practicing to keep as many mobs/the right mobs in BT while avoiding drawing/keeping "aggro" on you; again it's more positioning and constant readjustments than anything else but after going through low levels, Drow, Lolth, Immo, etc. you'd likely feel much more comfortable with doing a "cleric's" job than if you jump right into LLs and then Hells.
Of course by the same token after doing from 40-55 you'd probably gain the same thing in probably a similar (or even more, depending) amount of time so my point may well be moot.
But still, knowing the most effective ways to mass spawns for ploding will likely serve you well when you go to get solo xp. By this I mean that plode AoE is probably a bit different than other insta spells you're used to using so it takes some practice to cast it for optimal effect every time.

Hey, I like the essays! Maybe I'm part of the 1%. I agree it is definitely practice. I ran across some great stuff on the wiki to help me transition from my old server to this on for AA's and Rangers so I'm expecting there is something similar for Clerics as a basic how to guide and a good gauge of spell selections to use and their changes put into use in strategy.
