I agree. I was following the general trend. Plus I don't have a lot of feats that I really want pre-epic. Are there any pre-epic feats you'd recommend to replace Maximize?
Hmm well if you drop enough you can get another school to Epic Spell Focus level, but I also just noticed that you have no feats for saves, which is another thing to consider.
I've never used it. I figured the extra defence would be important. If the documentation is correct, it gives "+20 armor class bonus" to start (I guess this is an armor bonus, as opposed to deflection, but I don't know). On top of that, Higher Ground does the following:
- At CL41, grants an additional +((CL - 40) / 2) Dodge AC, +((CL - 40) * 2) Concentration, Discipline, and Parry skills.
- At CL50, grants Epic Dodge as a bonus feat.
- At CL41, grants an additional +((CL - 40) / 2) Dodge AC, +((CL - 40) * 2) Concentration, Discipline, and Parry skills.
- At CL50, grants Epic Dodge as a bonus feat.
That is nice and seems like it would be useful at any level unless that pre-LL +20 AC is Dodge, in which case consider putting off the feat until level 41 or 50 when the special bonuses kick in.
So my idea that a dependence on summons and Evards would reduce the importance of Spell Penetration does not stack up to scrutiny, eh? Thanks for the re-ordering. As for Epic Spell Penetration, I'm not sure if I agree with putting it so early. I didn't notice much trouble with spell resistance for my cleric levelling up to 40.
Well, speaking from experience I can say that Evards+Summons do not always work. Sometimes you need to fall back to other spells, for a number of reasons. And while spell resistance checks are not extremely high at low levels, there is some SR to overcome. But the overall benefit is better to have good spell penetration and DC on your focused spells than spending two feats and however many levels to get just +1 DC overall from the two Gr. Intelligence feats.
Assuming I ever get there, do you think a Tomb of Enchantment makes more sense than Trans or Abj? As I said, the only reason I chose it is because the epic spell fit with the theme of the character (using other creatures to do the dirty work).
Thanks again.

That's mostly personal preference. Rebuke is nice. I use it on my cleric frequently in all kinds of areas. I haven't tried using Dominate Monster (Maze) but I've seen it used very effectively to neutralize some very tough mobs. I don't know anything about Ensnare True Denizen but if the other Enchantment spells are what you're looking for, I'd say go with it.
As a primarily Hells player I like Trans because of STF and Disintegrate, which are very handy for dealing with constructs in Hell, and it also boosts your Greater Stoneskin IIRC. Stone and Disintegrate can also be used on Shrills in Thids, and I'm sure on plenty of other mobs. Abjuration is handy for the epic, and also if you want that very nice +75% immunity to an element (which, TBH, I forget to cast 95% of the time). It also helps you land Mords but I think most people don't have any trouble landing them without Abj focuses.
