Been fooling around with this build (9pally/1 monk/30BG), stats look ok: 35str 28dex 70cha
Took it on a test drive through avernus and it was incredibly squishy. Lowish ac at 115, but this isn't an issue with other toons I have with similar ac- high parry, conceal, evasion and imms usually make up for the low ac. All physicals at 95%+ and the only blistering weakness is acid at 0%/50. Thought the 50 resist would do the trick but apparently not when you get critted.
Any ideas on making a non-squishy cha tank? Will report back when I up her conceal and imms.

What about a bane knight sort of build? You'd rely on spells for martial abilities, but the squishyness would be taken care of with buffs. And higher cha means good bigby'ing to boot..

Between special abilities (KD immunity, critical hit/fear immunity) and spells (conceal, damage, AB), bards can make fairly decent cha tanks. The trick to making them most effective likely comes down to equipment. You can review my build here.

highergroundpoa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=prestigeblackguard&action=display&thread=17193 This works nicely for me. great damage and in his final state, great tanking. However, as the build post states, he relies on cania BP, asmo armor, and SH for ac (2+3+3). That swings him from 127 to 135 ac (139 with gird). 127 is doable, but not amazing. Also - PARRY PARRY PARRY even on crit immu tanks. I believe it's far more important than the general consensus. Sure, when crit immu is up it's pointless, but in practice, you get caught alot with your pants down.

MEANT TO POST IN BUILD DISCUSSION, FEEL FREE TO MOVE.
Thanks for the responses. It is a reincarnated BG, so I have to stick to that control class. Shard- your build looks great, but this is a ultra rare subby I am working with, so I chose Fallen Angel. As for parry- with song it was at 100 through entire run. Still got crited like a fool.
I failed this build into maximum frustration so will come up with some solutions until the three months is over. Please learn from these mistakes:
Major Fail 1: Took blooded but didn't take LSF tumble. Wanted the ab from EWF rapier, but with an ab of a little over 100 with +20, EWF is not even nescessary. 70 CHA + rapier wit goes a long ways towards ab. AC from tumble is palty +2. At ac 116 presently, that could be 126 + girding= decent ac.
Major Fail2: I used the cha arty during my reincarnation week prior to a test run. Dumb dumb dumb. So if I reincarnate I will lose the arty/stat bonuses because acquired and used it during the redo week.
Minor Fail: Dex at only 14. Saves from 70 CHA make reflex checks a non-issue but straight DEX checks are going to be difficult vs balors etc.
Minor Fail: Took monk for free cleave and evasion, not realizing it gives me Monk AC bonus (which doesn't work due to armor etc). Receiving free unusable Monk wis ac, means I lose out entirely on the +15ac that I would theoretically receive from divine shield and 70 charisma. I was really only counting on the ac bonus to top off any ac category to 20, but meh.
Fixes: Take LSA Tumble instead of EWF Rapier = +10 ac (to 126). Take a level of Fighter and Cleave instead of Monk and a junk filler feat pre-epic; the bonus feat from fighter I'll use for Power Attack which is required for cleave.
All in all though, this will be a decent build. Have a demi BG that needs reincarnated and want to make it a cha tank/smiter. In the end will have 130+ ac with girding and shield, ab in the 90's, major high saves, good smite damage, ac in the 120s dual wielding with good melee damage.
Three months....ugh.
Gonna post the current build in the proper forum for further critical analysis.

Ok here is the essence of the build: AB: 98 or 96 (without EWF) or 92 dual wielding AC: 128 with Blooded/LSA Tumble, +girding 130, + lighter armor = low 130's. Saves: fort 88 ref 82 will 84 Imms are geared for 100%/-50 for all non-esoteric damage types. Can cover at least three 100%/-50 and the rest at least 70%/-50 without switching up gear. Great Smite AB= 100 (max) Great Smite damage = max 2,400 ([CHA Mod] 30x4=120xd20[GS10] =2,400. This is a one-shot kill for trash mobs vulnerable to selected damage type. Melee damage from rapiers with divine might + sneak attack is averaging 100 dmg per hit. AFAIK at 8 attacks a round, assuming six of them hit, thats averaging 100 per hit, its 600 damage per round. This will likely be 50BG/9Pal/1ftr. It is currently 1 monk instead of fighter, but that will be changed. Will find a way to make it work at 9pal if what I hear about a smite a minute with full smiter classes is true. Note the massive greater smite damage depends on quickslotting smite damage changes and hitting exactly the right targets with exactly the right damage type. Hitting 10 targets for 2,400 dmg apiece in one shot is not going to happen- though hitting one or two for 2,000, two or three more for 900+ and the rest for 300+ in one shot is pretty good imo. With some attention to mob vulnerabilities and damage type selected, most trash can be brought to "near death" or at least badly wounded in one shot. I have three months to I can reincarnate this again, so any thoughts or help in getting what I want polished and ready to go would be appreciated. It is x1 demi with Fallen Angel subby. Full Blackguard capabilities including summon epic fiend (usually a balor, marilith, male, or pf), sneak attack, and the full range of blackguard spells. I am determined to make a kick-butt charisma tank with a UR subby. Will shore up the weaknesses with gear and not pretend to be a front line 'main battle tank' until reincarnated again. Will go for x2 in the meantime.

Going to figure out how to make this a turner as well. Will do some testing and submit the results. If nescessary I'll just burn another cha arty, 3 months is way to long to wait, esp if I can make this work.

I hope you ment you never make the dex check for a malebranche. Since you would need oh..46 + dex to have chance to survive a balor domination.
