I decided to make a new thread to discuss some thoughts I've just been having after going back and reading more on Deso's Penetrating Arrow. (that does not sound right)
Anyway:
Also, potential derail but this makes me think, what about having Whetstone work for ranged weapons as well?
In fact if that is possible...now hopping from fighter to rogue...if it is possible to have whetstone buff on ranged then could this technique be used possibly to help rogues out? General consensus is PWS rocks, either alone or at least in combination with whetstone and people are now even going as far as to come up with builds utilizing just fighter and WS (and whetstone for less unorthodox melee builds) much as use WM for crit (the comparison I am trying to draw here is that this is a more serious commitment to the class, not just a 1- or 2-level splash). If this is popular and also powerful enough to be attractive, (and--as of yet--not deemed imbalanced) then perhaps it could serve the purpose of a rogue buff? I would elaborate here on justifying the idea but I think it's pretty clear..
Ok so that was copy/pasted from what I was gonna post in his build thread.
Anyway...fighters, and assassins.
And ranged tanks that are not AAs or Rangers.
Well the ideas are said already. I think it would be nice to allow some more build variation into the AA scene by providing possibilities such as fighter with PWS, whetstone...meh would it be too much?
As for rogue, I think it would be nice to give them a damage boost vs. things that can't be sneak attacked. Unlike some other possibilities this buff would not be introducing new damage types or other balance considerations to a rogue's damage output; merely a flat increase against both sneaks and non-sneaks, but more noticeable vs. non-sneaks I think. If this was enabled for ranged weapons as well then it would help improve xbow rogues which I think most agree are not usually the top DPS rogue type and rogues in general are not high DPS anyway.
Now the more I think on it the more this would really kind of resemble PS, in which rogue kind of emulates assassin via having sneak damage = MS and whetstone/whatever = PS. So meh. But I would want this damage to (of course ) be integrated unlike PS.
Speaking of which wouldn't that alone be a nice bump for assassins right there?
