I know this is the off-topic board, but not meant I think, for things *this* off-topic. I apologize in advance. Ijust need to let off some steam.
I'm Brazilian. Despite that, I have pretty much stopped watching soccer games in the last few years. I started watching this world cup and, voilá, 4 games after I had a reminder of WHY I stopped watching.
Neymar one of the few players it was a pleasure to watch playing, is out of the cup. With a broken vertebra. Which was made with a knee on the back. On a game the opposing team had pretty much lost. And it was not even considered a foul.
Bleeped. Sorry for the language, but Bleep bleep bleep.
To top it all, I had remarked TWE GAMES AGO that it was strange, the refeeres were not being hard on small fouls, specially those commite without the ball. I don't even mean two players pushing each other with their shoulders. I mean the were ignoring people actually putting their hands on somebody else's back and pusing or pulling they off balance.
I think it is human nature. If you can get away with something, you move up to the next level. And there is the result. Of course, it is just the best players that suffer like that. Why go hard on a hack? He's liable to step on the ball and fall flat on his ass all by himself if given half a chance. But a good player? Kill his ass.
I don't know if I'll even watch the rest of the cup. Frankly, if I want to watch peple kicking each other, I'll go see a tai-kwen-do match. At least they won't be pretendig to do something else.

Lol. Even funnier than Brazil antics was Mexico. Lols. I <3 the Dutch and they claim this was well-deserved after similar previous case of penalties NOT being called when THEY got BS'd but still, what a priceless source of laughter... <3 Slovak-made comedy: Not to minimize your (BR) pain and suffering. 'Twas indeed some bulllllllsheet. Ah well, what can we say "Tune in next World Cup to discover the new Best International Actor In Sports" "Who shall win the nomination for Most Skilled Acting In Futbol"

It is part of the problem. When you advocate harsher penalties for the fouls, ppl point to a guy like that to say that it shouldn't be done on account of people faking them.
In my opinion, if somebody is caught even after the fact - i.e. on video, after the game is done - doing what this guy did, he should get a harsh suspension. Like, 3 months. 2x that if it a decisive game. Another 2x - cumulative - if it is the finals game. You don't want to play ball? Well, don't.

Agreed. Now I am in no way comparing golf to soccer, but it is the definition of a "gentleman's game" and the honor system applies but they instituted a call in and instant replay for fouls committed which has been mixed bag but if they can do it, why not soccer? NFL has instant replays, NHL (yes, North American but still...).
