Hey all,
I'm in the process of building a Bard, and I'm curious (read FRUSTRATED) regarding Bard song.
Bard song ability is linked to class levels in Bard AND Perfom skill. Interesting thing is, I have NO IDEA how to get the Bard's PERFORM skill high enough to use the song to full effect beyond say L25.
Extra effects come every +1 bard level AND +5 Perform skill. Even if you max out CHA and take all Great Charisma feats, plus skill focus and epic skill focus in perform, you are nowhere near the required skill requirements in Perform.
According the the grimoire, you need 50 skill at L20, and then +5 skill every level after that.
How on earth do I get the skill that high? For example, +100 at level 30? Yikes
Any suggestions? Are there any uber-items that give +20 or more skill in perform?
Any advice would be helpful,
Grogbot

I'm in the process of modifying bardsong in the current update. It will cap at 40, not 30, with 2 perform skill needed per level. This means you need a perform of 80 at 40, a number I carefully selected - it is 3 below the very highest a bard with max Charisma can get. This was based on these numbers base CHR 18 +10 levelup +10 Great CHR feats +12 Items = Chr 50 = bonus of 20 to skill max perform skill = 43 ----------------- max perform = 63 +20 skill bonus from item/s ========== 83 perform A bard set with a perform bonus is also going in. The effects of the curse song and bard song will scale, to be double what they are at level 20 at level 40. This means the skill bonus granted at 40 will be lower than it currently is at lvl 30, but it will be attainable, heh. The rest of the bonuses will be higher than the level 30 ones, only the skill bonus took a hit. AC will be at +10 at lvls 36 and up, for instance. A glimpse of the progression: lvl per at dg w f r HP AC Skill 30 60 4 5 4 3 3 48 5 9 31 62 4 5 4 3 3 50 7 10 32 64 4 5 4 3 3 52 7 10 33 66 4 5 4 3 3 54 7 10 34 68 4 6 4 3 3 56 8 10 35 70 4 6 5 4 4 58 9 11 36 72 4 6 6 4 4 60 10 12 37 74 4 6 6 4 4 62 10 13 38 76 4 6 6 4 4 64 10 14 39 78 4 6 6 4 4 66 10 15 40 80 4 6 6 4 4 68 10 16 One last note - please post stuff like this in the class balancing thread, not here, you'll get a much faster response. I didnt even see this post until the changes I'm discussing were done. One last note - just because we haven't bumped a given class yet, doesn't mean we're not gonna. These changes take time, and I'm the only one scripting them, so be patient. The overall goal is to make all the classes fun and powerful, and we'll get there, but it's gonna take awhile. Best, Funky

Oh, and yes, there is currently at least one item that gives +20 perform, and the bard secret item will probably also give a large bonus.

Thanks Funky I posted it here because I thought *I* was making a mistake, and not a problem with the module or balancing Grogbot

Lol no need to be embarrased, Bioware just did a crap job on transitioning stuff to epic levels, everything from loot tables to class abilities. For future reference, if you think a given ability is problematric/useless/whatever, there's a good chance it's a problem with the engine. Funky

You'll notice I left the skill focuses out of the math above, and I decided in retrospect I had better explain. There are only a few items that give perform bonuses, and the one that gives +20 is only useable after you are immortal. The bard secret will bew a levvel 40 item. Until you get those items, you will be hard-pressed to max your skill without those feats, and after you get them, having the feats will mean it's not necessary to wear THAT item to get the benefits of top-level song.
