I was helping some people with an immortal run today. The server crashed part way through it and when I returned my set of books is missing from my inventory and from the inventory of the mortal I lent them too. Now those books took considerable time to collect. Four of them are very annoying to get. The crash was not my fault, so I am hoping to get those books replaced in my inventory. Either in Tyranlthixis or Thanos would be fine.
This is the third time i have lost items in this way. The most catastrophic was my when the server crash while i was transfering high level gear to another character. i have replaced some of that. But, those book aren't even fun to get. I'm hoping someone will help me this time.
Thanks for you time Tyran

The problem is that EVERYONE loses items, gold, and experience during a crash, and they are almost never directly someone's fault, but we simply do not have time to replace them all in a server this size. And if we pick and choose, its unfair to those that we dont help. And then there's the problem of people 'losing' things they never had - there's no way to check what was lost in a crash, so if we made it a policy to replace everything, it would be exploitable. Despite that, I will occassionally break with our no-replace policy to replace extremly hard-to-get loot, if I know the person is trustworthy, but those books are far from difficult to get, compared to ultrarares. If you loan something to someone, you are risking that they won't save, and it could be lost in a crash. If they save, you are safe. If you want to protect yourself from this sort of thing, simply don't loan stuff out, or better, just ask them to save after the xfer. Crashes are a fact of NWN life. Even servers without crash bugs will crash, if a character gets corrupted, or if there's a power out, or any number of other reasons. Saving is the only protection you have. Funky

WTH was going on with the 42 server last night as it seemed to be crashing every five minutes or so, was this an effect of an update or something hardware related?

We still don't know. It probably wasn't the update, because 111 was perfectly stable. I already scanned all the bicfiles from the last week (over 1600 of them) , and none of them were corrupted, so it wasn't the old 'person with corrupted character trying to login and crashing the server' gag either. We're keeping an eye on it... Funky
