Hello everyone,
I played with my palemaster on the server yesterday and my spells seemed to do much less damage compared to the other wizards in party. I know the calculation for the caster-level concering non-necromancy spells, but I didn't really care about them. But I tested negative energy burst on the fire beetles near town to make sure my char wasn't bugged:
My character is a wizard 4 / palemaster 8, so casterlevel for non-necro is 6 [4 + 8/3] and caster-level for necro-spells should be 13 [4 + 8*7/6] . According to the spell description of negative energy burst I should do 1d8 + 1 per caster-level, with a will save for half damage (the beetles failed the save always). In the tests I never did more than 12 damage, mostly something between 8 and 11, but I should do at least 1d8 + 13 = 14 damage.
Maybe someone could help me with this. Is there a change in the negative energy burst spell, I didn't notice? Do caster-levels for palemasters only trigger when reached a certain level (10, 20, ...)? Or is there something else I missed out?
thanks, maljin

Well, that's better than to restart my character. I got one level more by now. As soon as I'm level 10 palemaster, I'll check again and I'll post the damage of negative energy burst.

Sorry for the slow response. Doomsday is correct, though it looks as if the line saying that in the PM documentation was accidentally removed during an update. I've replaced it (and fixed a typo):
Casterlevels: Palemasters now gain casterlevels for their PM levels, once they reach 11 levels of Palemaster. For most schools of magics, they get one casterlevel for every 3 PM levels (1/3). This means that a PM can get up to 20 casterlevels in these spell schools (10 non-PM casterlevels + 30/3 PM levels).
Nice catch! Funky
