I agree with Arch, and what are there, 4 slimes? Every toon should carry some kind of missile weapon, if just for slimes and breaking stuff. This isn't a ssithrak or thid run we're talking about here were everyone at least is reliable and the noobs have already been weeded out. Imagine trying to do Ssithraks with people who won't listen when you tell them not to spawn the whole bridge, or try doing thids with someone who won't stop running around the houses in the Geode Colony. And unlike Thids or SSithraks, you don't have a lot of options about who you party with - you have to take what you can get. This is how the battle with the slimes goes: Cath: "Ok, guys, be careful inside here, if you go the wrong way you spawn slimes that eat your weapons." Group: "Ok Cath, we'll be careful!" ten seconds later.... NoobIntheGroup: "Hey, we're being swamped by Vampires, I'm going to retreat into that room where we haven't been yet! Oh cool, what are these green things? They look easy! Let's all attack them!" five second more.... Cath: "I'll go get my immo..." At the end though, you have to agree there must be some problem with the castle because, as Arch pointed out, "no one goes there". It's reasonable to surmise that if the area really was a great one or at least a suitable alternative, people would go there. Shadow elves sounds good though - that still gives good experience at lvl 30?

IMO nothing is funnier than a bunch of naked newbs running from slime. But seriously, Gaobin isnt that hard and I find that those slimes rarely eat my weapons. Yeah it requires a tad more teamwork than razhids, but it isn't the abode by any stretch. Personally I think the shadow elves are actually harder, with the teleporting mages and all. Another thing I did with my last toon was actually go slaying capped dragons, and I can recommend this as an alternative to raz's. Admittedly it isn't great xp, and Lucy takes forever to run to, but it was interesting and fun and we found good loot, just remember that everyone has to be under 31.
And don't think i dont like the xp in raz, cause i do, I like to play devils advocate. I guess I agree that another 30-35 powerlevel spot would be nice, but my point is there are alternatives. Even if you just pull a group away from razhids just for a trip to gaobin, zhents or shadow elves and then head straight back to raz's, you've at least accomplished your goal of spicing up your powerleveling.

Gotta say I loave the castle, the storyline is a hell of alot of fun, and a refreshing break from Raz. Also the loot is one of the best Pre Immo places to get hooked up. However, it DID suck to not know the slimes ate your weapon when I was new and to lose my PinPrick to the bastards..... the castle is alot of fun, Zehnts are fun to BTW if you ever go in the beholder prision and exit out intot he ascencion sewer there are a bunch of those slimes there too... Lost a Drip there

Speaking of loot, few parties seem to hit Moad much these days, especially pre-immo, despite the fact Moad drops some pretty nice pre-immo gear which helps the immo run go much smoother. And she's a softy, so it's not a real trial with a half decent pre immo party. Yuan Ti are fantastic fun - slightly more of a challenge than raz, but much higher XP too. Every toon should carry some kind of missile weapon, if just for slimes and breaking stuff. Ever get to the Zhedi's orb and 4 out of 5 tanks in your group don't even have a missile weapon. Unless I'm mistaken (?) you need to be a dexer to have a chance in hell of hitting with ranged weapons.. (i.e. not all tanks are dexers, despite their popularity) Or would a sling work?

While its true that a str tank will have horrible ab with a ranged weapon, there are multiple spots in LL where you have to break stuff you can't reach. You don't need much ab to be able to hit a stationary orb, and I'm guessing those slimes don't have much ac either.
BTW DC, look out for the rust monsters in hobgoblins too. I'm pretty sure thats where my memories of a whole lowbie party running away naked came from.

Quick tip, a strong party moving quickly can do gaobin, guardians, zhents over and over and over if you do all 3 without waiting for respawn at all. People also ALWAYS underestimate the drow tunnels, yes their individual experience is terrible, but there are just sooooo many that die sooooooooooooooo quickly with a death magic dealer. I have levelled many a toon thru immortal status without ever setting foot in rhazids, and i level as fast as anyone on the server.
Edited to add: not all missile weapons use dex to hit modifier, throwing axes anyone?

What was the first funniest? Ya left me hangin. I was on one night cleaning up my characters, server was almost empty, nothing was going on, I walk into the bank and come upon Brena and Miles at the entrance. To this day I don't know what they were talking about, a part of me doesn't really want to know, but all of a sudden just when I'm walking by Miles proudly declares, "Yes, Brena, you're right, I'm a perv! I'm a super perv and that's a bannable offense, please ban me!" Please speak no more of this. Sincerely, The Higher Ground Secret Police

Throwing axes still add dex mod to AB, but they are also automatically mighty up to whatever your STR mod is.

Thats simply not true, Castle Gaobin is one of the best under-immo areas on the server, yet no one goes there, which still boggles my mind. Probably has something to do with the weapon-eating slimes. *cough* Thunderclap *cough* I loved the castle.....took forever to solo it, but loved it just the same.

Please speak no more of this. Sincerely, The Higher Ground Secret Police My lips are sealed, I don't want a bunch of crabs wearing suits and dark sunglasses pulling me out of my house in the middle of the night and taking me away in their black helicopter never to be seen again.

*Coughs, then looks around nervously*
*Whispers* Pssst - I've had personal experience with the HG Secret Police - trust me you don't want to find yourself dead at random times, nor mysteriously teleported to unusual locations where terrible things are done repeatedly to your toon and .... Ahhhhhhhhhhh! Nooooooooo! *Thud*

To be honest I think there are plenty of areas to level..... But not all should be giving you 200-300 exp, so to me its pretty well balanced. Want to power level well play boring and have limited maps, want good exp then have fun in a lot of other places.
