I think lala (and other posters here) have hit the nail on the head. In an effort to appease multiple types of personalities/motives, the server team has created a limited number of places to power-level, while having a multitude of areas to look for loot. Maybe the thought was that the number of "adventurers" outweighed the "power levelers", so they adjusted the areas thusly. Makes sense to me. If you want to PL, you pay the price of boredom to the point that you'll poke your own eyes out with a mouse (which is just as difficult as it sounds, and more painful).

I think the problem comes in some of what Cath brought up in finding people who want to go off the beaten path. So many times in a group as soon as a couple people pipe up "the xp in (x powerlevling area) is a lot better, lets go there", and the mob mentality sees their levels surging, and off they go
Not that there's really any solution to this, it's just a frustration I've had that goes along with this thread.

Personally (being quite new to the server) I think that the major problem is that most people who have one (or more) immo characters tend not to be keen or explorations. They have proverbially got the t-shirt... And then so many newbies don't know how to get to places, they just port in afterwards.... The only way I found out about the lair is by someone having the bright idea of taking "Team Radiance (Hooray, Hooray)" out and controlling a vampyre to kill Glith. I was level 38 when I found out how to get to rhaz, and don't know were the web is. Many vets are happy to give you a helping hand, but if they suggest say the web, some people might say weres that? and to that they will reply, well its ... lets go razh... I find that this happens on most servers, I mean how often do you vets go out looking for equipment for level 20's? (barring someone who has made 10 tanks making there first caster) In fact thats why I think that this Great Hunt is a great idea. The Party Scheduling forum will come into its own as well. I think the best (and funniest times) are exploring areas with just a few other people. It is convenient having a sister who also plays HG, as we can sometimes play nwn together, which is how three of us found castle Gaobin, me, my sister, and... the three of us....also the krazed kobold from hell followed us a bit....
But know you've made me raise the issue of drugs. And now for something completely different, on our nwnvault site it lists our 5 ip's and yet says we have 3 servers, as well as a number of grammatical errors (yes, this from me)! This will not stand...
Goodbye for a While.

what's interesting to me is that no one asks for help going places. when i first got here after i ported to a place twice, i'd be really curious and ask people to show me how to get here on foot. or i'd hear about a place and ask someone for directions.
if you ask me how to get someplace i'd be more than glad to go there. 've been just about everywhere on hg short of the pyramid, and i definately know my way around the pre-LL world
ask around, i think you'll find most of the guys who've been here a while know their way around the lower areas and can give you directions rpetty easily.

I was scrolling around, and another place that wasn't mentioned is the Ruined Tower...that trapdoor you pass on the east road. If I recall correctly, its a fast spawning 30ish area.
And I agree that there is more out there than most people go looking for - after all, I'm *never* been to either the Web, or to the Nether Caves.
Not to mention other wandering critters around that level - north of Gaobin are some draconians that are quite...interesting at times. Unfortunately the dragon they 'serve' isn't accessible and may not exist.
Thats an idea - any chance of adding the named dragon there up north as another 30-40 place to play?

The Ruined Tower is fun, but the end of it is very, very disappointing, and the loot drops seem a little underpowered for the level required to go in there. My friend and I went there once, found a total of four Stones of Rebirths, split them two each, finished the Ruined Tower with 0 Stones =P I swear, those things are cursed....
How come the Shadow Tomb hasn't been mentioned yet? I LOVE that place! The hard part is surviving the twenty thousand GRs that get thrown at you initially, and then figuring out the puzzles (hint: the answer is not to the front, back, left, or right). A fantastic piece of loot at the end that I'd put on all my tanks if I had any tanks...

Yer, I've been into the ruined tower, and though it provided brief amusement We ground round a while and kept losing the stones we found, then got annoyed by arcane specters. BUT! at that point I was slightly under leveled and just short of getting unlimited imbue arrows, so when I did get it I loved it.... then we got pawned going through the door past the second arcane specter
