Just started a palemaster toon and I was looking at several builds.
They mention "becoming" a lich.
Is becoming a lich automatic at a certain palemaster level?
If not automatic: 1. what are benefits of being a lich?
2. Also, if it's not automatic, could someone send me a PM on how to do it? (I presume it's a secret and don't want it posted)

these are good questions to ask people in game. not only will you be able to ask specific questions when you are confused, you might find one of the nicer people to help you do it, and you also meet people in game.
i asked most of my content-related questions (where, how, etc) when i first joined in game and used the forums to get information pertaining to more technical information like the customizations online.
just a suggestion

Or read up on it in the Changes section of the forums. It's in the Ability Change Books thread.

One of the main benefits of being a Lich is the ability to survive underwater without magical assistance meaning that a build based on a Pixie, Stinger, Genie, etc. will not need either levitation or water breathing to survive in all current areas, generally freeing up a ring slot.
