I always wanted an Assassin who could dev crit with a bow (especially an AA bow); and while I realize that you can only hone melee weapons to dev crit, I wondered if it might still be worth making. The idea: An assassin AA with Open lock and Disarm trap who can't dev crit but still benefits from assassin conceal (69%) and sneaks (15d6), AA bows and bard levels for skill dump at 40. I was thinking 3 bard/8 aa/29 assassin; Wraith for stats / +6 move silently and hide; and something like 2 bard/10 assassin/8 aa pre-epic; then 19 assassin/1 bard I was about to plan out the build in minute detail until it was pointed out to me that you need rogue levels to get the hardest traps/locks in the game. Doh! Back to the drawing board, lol. Any thoughts? Thanks -Bort

nice idea, death attack does not stack with critical no? but dmg may be superior. I like the idea of using conceal as a way to avoid going self concealment feat route

you can do locks you just have a problem with traps... if you remove traps instead of disarm you are fine, but you will need to get skill focus feats and all that to have a chance for it to work.... I think

Ah, maybe it's not a completely useless idea then. I'll do some searching on how locks and traps work in HG at some point regarding rogue/assassin and removing rather than disarming traps - know I've read about it adding to DCs somewhere before.. Thanks! -Bort

Assassins without a rogue level will not be able to deal with traps from Phlegthoras and deeper and as the BUR chests start in Cania you won't be happy when you get there, the increased dc from recovering rather than disabling just pushes you over the max skill you can achieve. Basically my Long Range Rogue does pretty much what you want although it only gets SCV (which on the positive side is not dispellable). Although you can do something similar with Yukio I would really suggest holding out for Erinyes before you build this as it makes it significantly easier.
