as far as I know pm's have problems with undead because of the immunity to death magic, level drain, and so on...and because every undead is healed when affected by negative nergy. Instead of giving more/better elemental damge spells (like fireball, chain lighting, ...) a pm could try to dominate undead. Last I checked control undead and undeath to death were both necromancy.

Think you guys are right about the "splash class" thing. I could not even get the secret to work properly once I got it. I got Flitter o'nightshade up to 30sd/10mk and cant say I am real impressed. Maybe some epic spells or redo thier shadow daze for LL. Say... mass blindness x ## of times per day > or...Hips changing to GS x ## of times per day with perhaps a greater smite like set up. Ability to turn into a shadow elemental after certain # of SD lvls reached. (shadow elementals look so cool) or....an attack bonus against anything with concealment. Or...that cool shadowy fog stuff that turns anything in the abyss...thats nice stuff....... PS...is the SD secret still bugged or am I just doing something wrong? Peace, Phantanya PSS...Maljin...please tell me I can get your avatar in a screensaver!

Hello all, long time player, first time forumererery guy thing
I think SD is the worst, i play a rogue/sd/assasin most of the time, but im hugely overpowered most of the time. HIPS works SOMETIMES, i have found it works with melee opponents, they break off their attack and just stand there, but any ranged attackers will keep shooting you.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned about SD is that it's a great class to choose for any dex-based character that is shooting for Epic Dodge and/or Self-Concealment. Keep in mind that you can achieve all the pre-reqs for ED with the minimum number of levels possible---10 SD. The only ways to get ED on HG are (in descending order of min. levels required):
30 ftr (auto-feat) 9 Monk (Imp. Ev) /10 rog (Def. Roll) - 19 total levels 13 rog (Imp. Ev. @10, Def Roll @13) 10 SD (Def Roll @5, Imp. Ev. @10, can easily get ED by lvl 24 or so) (not sure if there are any ED items, though I rather doubt it)
IMHO the most compelling reason to play a dex meleer is to work toward at LEAST Epic Dodge (and I wouldn't build one that wasn't also working toward at least SC III-IV).

I agree with adding in levels of SD to a dex build as a great way to get ED and SC, but think of SD in comparision to PM or RDD, which outside of Higher Ground not of much use beyond level 10 (more so with RDD). The HG team has made a point to add usefulness to these classes such that taking them to level 30 and beyond can be a great boon, thereby creating more char build diversity. The main grumble I have with SD's is that some work was done with this class early on (the epic summon), but there is (still) no real reason to take this class as your primary class.
