If anyone says "Need gmw" or something similar I respond with "Say the magic word.."

"the magic word"
Don't use the Ps and Qs saying, it's confusing :S. In fact, do we even need to say that? It's common courtesy that everyone should know. Just limit the information to HG/NWN specific items, so more people will read it (methinks the number of people that read a text is inversely proportional to the length of the text).
Any change in the party, whether adding or removing a member (including relogging) will cancel everyone's queues, spells and otherwise (not just buffs). This happens too if you use the PC Scry immediately before someone joins, the Talk command never goes off cuz it gets cancelled.

This was the first thing I thought when I read it, put more tactfully. I can't imagine the people who need lessons in common coutesy stopping to read this or benefitting from it even if they did. "the magic word" Don't use the Ps and Qs saying, it's confusing :S. In fact, do we even need to say that? . We say mind your p's and q's from the original print presses where the type set had to be watchful that they did not set p's in place of q's etc. When the type set placed the lead or wood block letters in the racks they were creating a Mirror image of what was to be printed. This meant they had to reverse spell everything from right to left. p and q being mirror opposites of eachother could often be confused. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle. GOOOO JOE! DOH! Mis-read the second sentence as "Why do we even say... rather than "Do we even need to say Cure for found Lysdexia

the magic word It's common courtesy that everyone should know. I agree, and as far as the Sticky/book/whetever goes, you are right. But the reason I started the thread in the 1st place was because of the amount of seemingly impolite, uncourteous behaviour I came across. I know typing "gmw pls" is twice as much work as "gmw", and "ty" is infinitiely more than no response, but still ... Personally, I find the voice-keys very useful. hitting vxx is a standard response for me when being buffed, resed, etc. Also vwe, vwa and vew are quite commonly used.

I tend to like vxe About the Ps and Qs, it took me a few moments to realize it meant Please and Thank Yous.... And I'm sure other would have the same problem. Call me slow, but I've been a little short on sleep as of late =(

Let me suggest that you are spoiling the fun for those players that just want to go and pick up items on the run, in a more relaxed way. And let me point out that the players who have been running the same routes for the hundredth time ALWAYS take the important stuff, leaving the noobs to guess at what's going on. Theres no way for me to go on a trip without some ultraubers taking over the party at some point, forcing me to follow as best i can. Not funny. And nwn has a very intricate random loot generator that should always let people find the stuffs they need wherever they go. If you have to take over a noob party, you should at least refrain from sacking in all the good stuff, yelling "who's banking'" back over your sholder, ant then keeping the best stuff to share with your closest friends. Also, consider that exploits may not be part of the game, even if we usually get away with it (eg. raising a party with higher level chars, pushing through doors etc) -- goblins are just the normal every day punk - from deep mysteries of the bureaucrat

in short - the splittin system is one of the most useful tools to divide the gold gained from junk that was found by the whole party, but it does not provide a useful means to divide any ultrarare items (at least not in my experience). And there is no way to share quest items, which is why i am so stubbornly insisting that anything found on the way should be idintified on the spot. -- cheers

Pushing through doors, oddly enough, is an accepted practice (afaik). Even more oddly, it encourages party play. In the higher level areas where it is NOT acceptable, there are triggers that will prevent it from happening. Also, using high level chars isn't frowned upon either, although some people may feel it's like cheating. Check out this thread: highergroundpoa.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=Tavern&action=display&n=1&thread=3453&page=1Also, about more experienced players taking over parties, we're just impatient and want to level as quickly as possible, as we may be on our 5th to 15th character if not more. Just speak up, and hopefully whoever you're with will listen.

Pushing through doors, oddly enough, is an accepted practice (afaik). It is definitely not, it's an exploit. It's just not scripted against in many places - yet, anyway. Funky

It appears to me that you are complaining here about something you thought up without taking time to concider what somebody else might be thinking about the same thing. Also, as a future reference, make it clearer who you are talking about. Simply stating "you" is bound to be taken badly be everbody who reads your post. Now, to get to my point. When you see something being done you don't understand you need to... dare I say it... ASK THEM WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Politely I might add. If it's something they ought not to be doing, chances are they will cut it out if somebody calls em on it. If it's a neat little trick they picked up along the way, they will be more than happy to explain, im sure. When you are a newbie, as you state, you need to ASK about things, not expect people to go out of their way to explain everything they do. To put it bluntly, this is a huge server. Lots of vets and lots of newbs. Nobody is going to bend over backwards for ANY newb (unless of course, they where blessed by Mother Theresa herself ). If this happens to be too much trouble for a newbie, than I'm gonna be honest and say that 99% of the players here aren't gonna give a rat's backside whether he stays or leaves. I don't concider myself by any means a vet, but I try my best to explain something to somebody that asks me. And if I can't, I point them in the direction of somebody that can. ~grudge

I'm not commenting on that, Grudge. Let me suggest that you are spoiling the fun for those players that just want to go and pick up items ... but some people have been reacting very angry about what i said, so let me explain. After playing along nicely and waiting for everybody to finish a run and go split, i can really live with it and don't think it's highwayrobbery anymore ! But at the time, it sure seemed so. Like other people have been posting, there must be an agreement with all party members, regardless of the time they joined with the party. So make sure everybody understands what you are doing or they will think you are some kind of a nut-case and they would crack your head open if they only could.

The one word commands: FW DF GMW KEEN COB WAIL IMPLODE :- omg never use them like that, Casters are not Bots in response to simple words ! and dont add a ?at the end of each word like we dont know what it does or how to use it or plz i know it smeans please but extend the word plz sounds halve arsed and dont care. Use FlameWep Please , yer its longer but will 2 secs kill u to spice up the annoying list of one words you send out to your caster (the most valued player in majority of runs?) Rant:- Decided to make the new cleric 9 mage 9 quasi ... and omg i know its annoying being a mage being bugger for gmw fw keen but, cleric gmw keen barkskin regen freedom if more.. then combined them ... This is how my 3 hours of gaming went: COB FW KEEN DF not even a PLZ got Barkskin? answer yer, cool can i have? answer sure that then became. COB FW DF KEEN GMW Bark :- ... i left the party

Different people have different feelings on that. I consider it my job (when I'm a caster) to hand out gmw/fw, and I even tell my party to remind me to recast it (if I didn't perm) every rest. If they want to say "gmw?" that's fine with me, cuz it means I'm not doing my job.
Also, especially in the heat of battle if somebody realizes they have no gmw/fw, a short abbreviation is a lot more time-effective than saying the whole thing.
But again, different people = different opinions.

Personally, I have several of my toons put "Is there someone who can enchant my blade please?" on a macro.
The "?" on the end of "gmw/fw pls?" is to show that is a request rather than an order.
When sat around before a run, waiting for more people, gettign potions, checking we have books/crown/runes/etc, I have plenty of time to type out: "Hey guys, what casters do we have? Does someone have a Greater Magic Weapon better than +10> if so, please let me know so I can switch weapon. I use a blunt weapon, so I would appreciate a KeenEdge from someone who can. If you are OK with the idea of Re-Logging to Perm the enchantment, that would be great!" In the middle of a fight when I notice my blows missing, and have to queue a couple of heals to ensure I don;t die while checking my AB/Inspect the buffs on my blade, "gmw pls" is all i get change to type ... otherwise it ends up as "My GMW seems to have worn off, can I get ... ... res please?"
As far as others suggesting which spells a caster should use, this should probably be worked out before hand, or left to the caster to decide. If a party has discussed and said "Mages, keep casting the Meteors until we see the MonsterX, when we'll need a Wail or two ... if any one sees MonsterX, shout "WAIL", " then that's fine. Trying to call "I can see MonsterX, You said you wanted a warning, so here it is - I can see the wailable Mons ... oh, the Tanks have killed it" does not work too well 8o)
Have you tried, while playing a caster, occasionally saying "Hit them!" or "blunt weapons!" or "Acid blades!". "Don't hit the snakes!",
Don't get me wrong, Legend, I have made several posts on here about trying to get people to be a little more polite, and to realise they are talking to real people. But in the heat of battle, an abbreviated form is a lot more useful. My cry of "gmw pls?" in combat is code for "It would appear my gmw has worn off. If there is someone nearby who has the chance to re-enchant me, that would be great. If not, I'll do without, but will not be able to hit as much. If you are ok with me just soaking damag ewhile you cast AoEs, I'm good with that too"
Sorry, that did turn into a rant defending behaviour I am not in favour of. Be polite, people. In combat, give people some leeway for using abbreviations, talking in terse, curt ways. When not in combat, ask rather than demand, use full, understandable sentences (I have many times seen someone call "GMW?" and get the response "yes please" ... "no, I'm asking"... "so am I" ... when a "can I get a gmw pls" would have saved so much time!)
