Sorry for the long post.
@funky:
Sympathy for the Devil is probably my favourite Stones song, good pick there
That social conscious rap actually has some traces of singing in the vocals, way more preferable.
In response to Carmina Burana:
which I used to play myself (and not all that bad even)
and as for
And metal is so much noise. I'm a classically trained cellist, so I'm picky, and eccentric.
, let's see how you like the following:
I'll post more 'metal that isn't just noise' at the end of this post. (Oh and did you notice the singing and guitarplay in the Strapping Young Lad song? You have to admit that's more than just noise ;-) )
@avi:
Tool's a bit too slow for my tastes, but at least it's sturdy music, which I like.
System of a Down as some nice songs, though most of them are a bit meh. Spiders is nice, if again a bit slow.
I never really understood Jimmi Hendrix, but that one is one of his better ones.
Ozzy, I don't like his voice much, but to each his taste I guess.
In reponse to the Hungarian Rhapsody, I am looking for a piece by Chopin, but I can't recall the name at the moment.
Damn, that last one is hilarious! XD
@digs:
I like Strapping Young Lad because it's fast, brutal, has awesome drums, really good guitarwork and man, that Devin Townsend can both Sing AND Screaml.
That Requiem for a Tower isn't all that bad either.
@tz:
I find Amon Amarth a bit bland, to be frank, there's not much variation in their music. If you like Viking Metal with slightly more different notes in it, try out some of the vids I'm placing at the end of this post.
Waidmanns Heil is pretty nice. Rammstein in general is both hilarious and sturdy, awesome music.
I'm only posting the link to this video of a live Rammstein show, because this is definitely not for young children and very much NSFW. Buck Dich ftw!For those who like Rammstein. Ever heard of Oomph! ? Not the same of course, but it's also categorized as
Neue Deutsche Härte.
And now for 'metal that isn't just noise'.
Alchemist, from Australia. Interesting music, love the screaming this song (chorus only, don't worry).
Ayreon. We all know the concept of 'rock opera'. What about 'metal opera'? The main performer is dutch, but he invites metal musicians from all over the world to work with him on his albums. From the album 'The Human Equation', 'Day Sixteen: Loser'.
Circus Maximus. Not sure about the genre, I guess 'progressive' and 'symphonic' describe it to some extend?
Dimmu Borgir. Pretty mainstream and commercialised Black Metal, yes I know, but I rather like their bombastic sound and the classical influences that are clearly noticeable throughout.
Stolen Babies.
Wintersun. Epic.
Viking/Folk Metal ftw!
Eluveiti, a group from Switzerland that actually includes a
Hurdygurdy-player in their line-up.
Ensiferum.
Equilibrium.
Finntroll 'sing' in Swedish but are from Finland (because Swedish sounds 'damn trollish' according to the singer). Their songs make me happy.
Heidevolk. Dutch pwnage! (Some spelling errors in the dutch text, but that shouldn't keep you from trying to sing along
)
Moonsorrow at their best. Love the Finnish lyrics.
Turisas.
Sing-as-high-as-you-can Powermetal!
Angra
Dark Moor
Dragonforce
Kamelot
Luca Turilli
Power Quest
Rhapsody of Fire
Sonata Arctica. Awesome keyboardist.
