Bonus XP is now live on all servers that reset after the posting of this message, for the next quarter of a million seconds (3 days, or more precisely 259200 seconds).
Happy Fourth!

Hi just a thought, might be wild off base here, but giving it a try... Would it be possible to once and for all, make a type of script taking care of all holidays and correctly adding "bonus holiday xp" from a approved calender (from Funky or dev team) like for example: US standard holiday calendarAs I understand it now, it is manually dealt with from time to time? This would, if possible save some time by not fixing this each and every time, and on the flip side, ppl wont have to ask for each upcoming holiday. It is already stated in the calendar. As I said, a wild idea. If I had coding skills, I would have added an example. Sadly I don't. -Happy 4th to all my US friends! Herc

Sure, it's possible. In the time it would take me to code, I could probably do few decades worth of manual activations.

I like the manual. Keeping an eye on this link. Looking forward to the next present from the DM: highergroundpoa.proboards.com/user/129/recentShared with coworker that started playing HG with me recently (both of us are NWN and HG noobs, as in never made it past lvl 22 yet).

Hey, a new player! I've recently been mouthing off about what I think would be good or bad for new players. If you see anything in this mod that you think is particularly good or bad, please let me know! If it's all overly mediocre, let me know about that too!
Please, if it suits you tell me everything and anything you feel like.

My only suggestions would be to have the drops without the randomization. Leave that up to the player who finds the loot, to decide whether or not to randomize.
The only thing I do not like are the loot pickpockets. There are none of them in the legendary level runs or the hell runs, so why have them for low levels.
Everything else is great, and I am really enjoying it here. A special thank you to all the dms and the penguin, for that half-celestial book. I am really enjoying the subrace.

Eh, yeah. Another lame holdover from PoA. They're annoying and pretty devoid of any merit/value, other than teaching you to be careful and cheesily avoid them. There's some certain loot spots that always pop unrandomized gear. (afaik this only exists in a very few spots; there's several in lowbie zones, and the only one I can think of past 40 areas are the 3 loot spots on Desert of Vashyk map) Of course you have full control over getting unrandomized loot; there's a SIMTool command that makes loot pop as unrandomized rather than randomized. The tradeoff is you get less loot (and therefore, less chances of higher-rarity loot). There's quite some history and reasoning behind this, but that's a long story to explain and I'm not in a position to advocate it. That said, the alternative (having all loot automatically pop as unrandomized) is problematic, and that's why the choice to do so is slightly penalized. Although I don't know of anyone who has thoroughly tested (over a long time, and involving a legit sample set) the results of choosing unrandomized loot, so it's hard to say (other than looking at the code numbers) exactly how bad the penalty is (but it's certainly a noticeable degree of less overall loot, which means that it's generally acknowledged as a bad choice in BUR zones, since that negatively impacts your overall success of scoring BURs). I've tested it a bit but it's pretty meaningless without a proper experiment; suffice to say virtually nobody bothers because despite how much crappy randoms you get, and how annoying it is to sift through a bunch of crap, and how bad most randoms seem to be (properly), the potential benefits are amazing, and tend to provide a lot of fun (imagine your excitement over the half-C book). Speaking of which, penguin gifts are unrandomized

If remember correctly, if you choose unrandomized gear you only get 1/3 of the drops compared to randomized loot. When people were complaining how bad the random loot system was, Funky upped the drop rate to 3x. That was the last change I heard of, so even if it's not spot on, it's close to that.
Of course, I could be wrong.

No random loot no Ego items...........yes lots of stuff gets a kicking but play enough and you'll find stuff that's significantly better than non randomised not to mention you can get looting and find the secrets to fix partially broken stuff another incentive to build specific characters and explore the mod

Ah, thanks guys. I did not know that removing the randomization would reduce the drop rates.

I found a nice lvl 9 bracers with Haste AND 5/- Magic Resistance.
Normally items that have just haste start at lvl 9 and go up from there when they have other properties that I have seen so far.
I was very happy.
When rolling a new toon (done about 40 so far) that I will stick with (done about 10 so far) I can't wait to get to lvl 9, put on a haste item, and really enjoy the game.

Haste changes everything, I feel like I'm moving in treacle without it.
If anyone wants to know more about that pickpocket thing, there is quite the discussion about in on the old AW forums. The problem of longterm players accumulating gold and items was seen by Tres as a big problem - the number of millionaires was a point of contention. The theft was a part of the 'solution' (I wasn't there, but it doesn't seem like it worked particularly well). The next part of the solution was Drow areas taking 1/2 of your gold as well as both your weapon and armour. The third was with vault wipes (The last vault purge was January '05, when Funky began his ministry).
