spot is only needed to find hidden (or invisible) creatures. Seach is to find traps and hidden doors etc Its not that simple as HG uses a lot of scripting. They could use spot if they decided to, hence why it is better for a DM to respond. There are several hidden doors that you do not see rolls for, this is not the same as finding hidden object that you get a roll for. Lala

well a dm would be nice but I just double checked with search and only got it for what I mentioned and also for spotting people trying to pp you or sneak and steal your loots.

I think that Spot is needed in the area where you find the piece of jewelry that allows you to walk on sand. At least, I've taken characters there with a high search and had extreme difficulty finding it, and characters with a high spot check found it much easier. May be coincidence, may not be. Regardless, the DM's can easily enough add it to any place in the game. With that said, I wouldn't focus on spot, unless you have an overabundance of skill points. Search will be much more useful in general.

Really would be nice if a DM could shed light on whether the skill is required, wouldnt break any HG mechanics as we do know it makes sense to look around the surroundings for secrets..... Just knowing what skills are used in HG would help a lot. Cheers Lala

In regards to what skills are used in HG, check out the General Effective Building Guidelines and the recent changes made (most notably to Animal Empathy and Heal for different classes) in the HG modifications portion of the forums.

Dms arent told about all the secrets in HG, needs those who design those secrets to say whether Spot is ever considered.
Probably only way for a definitive answer is if Funky responded, or if a DM responds by saying they clarified it with Funky.
As it stands I would be very nervous not including spot on a char specifically designed to deal with all those rogue type things.

well you can send funky a tell if you like but when he first leaked about the hells and rogues he only said you would want epic skill focus in seach and disable traps. So I have used that as gospel. But send a tell he always answers mine.
